It LOOKED okay, but after everything else installed fine, I couldn't connect to SQL Server at all. I tried the step of just ignoring the failure message. I've manually ensured files were deleted (whacked the entire folder too) before re-installing. Uninstall usually fails too ("stopped working" right at the end). I have tried both the platform and the web platform tool.

Perhaps this is because it installs SQL Server Express 2008 first and then attempts to install SQL Server Express 2008 R2 right behind it? Everything appears to be working, but that error message made me panicįor a minute! I also had this exact same problem installing SQL Server Express 2008 on a 64-bit Windows 7 Professional using Web Platform Installer 2.0. "Microsoft SQL" directory is missing, so I can't have master.mdf there. The list of Program Files before the WebPI installation on bellow.
